Promoting energy saving in Vietnamese industries

06/05/2022

On May 5 and 6, 2022, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Industry and Trade will coordinate with the World Bank to organize a workshop to introduce: “Project on Promoting energy saving in industries in Vietnam – Project VSUEE”.

The project “Promoting energy saving in industries in Vietnam” is implemented to promote economical and efficient use of energy in the industrial sector in Vietnam, and at the same time contribute to achieving the national target on energy saving. saving energy, ensuring energy security and implementing tasks and actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and respond to climate change.

The project aims to implement a credit guarantee mechanism for energy saving investment projects; remove barriers to accessing commercial loans; create motivation to mobilize financial resources, promote the implementation of energy-saving projects through piloting the risk-sharing mechanism in investment and implementation of energy-saving projects; Supporting the implementation of the goals of the National Program on Economical and Efficient Use of Energy (VNEEP).

The project is funded by the Green Climate Fund and entrusted through the World Bank, the Ministry of Industry and Trade is the managing agency.

Participating in the VSUEE Project, industrial enterprises will be able to apply improved and optimized production technologies to cut production costs and energy consumption, thereby improving their overall competitiveness. themselves in domestic and international markets.

At the workshop, the financial institutions participating in the project, industrial enterprises and energy service companies will receive expert guidance and in-depth training on a number of contents such as: energy saving norms, energy saving solution technologies in the industry, identification of energy saving projects, calculation of energy saving potential and emission reduction factors.

Economical and efficient use of energy is the top priority solution in ensuring energy security, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and implementing the Vietnam Green Growth Action Plan. In which, industry is the sector that consumes the most electricity in the structure of the economy, accounting for more than 50% of total electricity consumption. This is also an area where it is forecasted that there is still a lot of room for energy saving, with about 25-30%.

According to the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), if 2,900 key electricity-consuming facilities save only 2% of electricity consumption, the whole country will save 1.4 billion kWh per year.

Vietnam is in the group of countries most affected by climate change. In order to develop socio-economic stability, the Government has issued many action programs on economical and efficient use of energy and green growth.
