Vietnam Manufacturing Industry In A Position To Grow And Expand

Ho Chi Minh City, 24 May 2016 - The impact of the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) on Vietnam has already been felt on the ground even prior to its official signing, evident from the large investments received from foreign industrial manufacturers. Reported by the General Statistics Office (GSO), the Industrial Production Index (IPI) in Vietnam rose 7.9 percent on the year in April of 2016, which marked an acceleration compared to the 6.2 percent increase recorded in the previous month1, where the processing and manufacturing industry led the way with the year-on-year growth of 12.5 percent2.

Recently signed Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), the establishment of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2015 along with the prospects for the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) are likely to keep Vietnam as a promising destination for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI),
further augmenting the country’s position as a prominent manufacturing hub in Southeast Asia.

Vietnam’s manufacturing growing but there remains major challenges

Although Vietnam’s economy boasts impressive numbers, many economic experts have commented that the manufacturers based in the country have to cope with a slew of challenges in the face of increased international competition. In fact, due to the lack of capital, technical equipment and advanced technology, many small and medium enterprises have been mired in difficulties, finding it hard to compete with foreign counterparts.

As a result, it is ever more critical for locally based manufacturers to not only invest and upgrade their industrial technologies, but also scale up the knowledge and capabilities to improve productivity, enhance competitive advantage and move up the value chain.

MTA VIETNAM2016 – Timely return to boost the industrial capabilities

Dedicated to serving the manufacturing industry and supporting its progression on the value chain, MTA VIETNAM is back for its 14th edition, making headway as the premier platform catering to the precision engineering, machine tool and metalworking industries in Vietnam and beyond. This event provides a unique opportunity for local and overseas industry professionals to converge.
