MTA VIETNAM has strongly established itself as an industry-leading event, playing an important role in bolstering growth and enhancing added-value of Vietnam’s manufacturing industry
Ho Chi Minh City, 29 May 2017 – The participation in many Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) along with the prospects for the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), which is seen as a counter to the TPP after the US withdrawal, are likely to keep Vietnam as a promising destination for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). Foreign investment flowing into Vietnam, especially in the manufacturing industry, is expected to continue to increase sharply, bringing boundless development and cooperation opportunities, further augmenting the country’s position as a prominent manufacturing hub in Southeast Asia.
Released by the Foreign Investment Agency (the Ministry of Planning and Investment), Vietnam’s manufacturing sector has absorbed US$6.54 billion in the first quarter of 2017, accounting for 84.9 per cent of total registered capital in the period1. The processing and manufacturing sector’s production surged 9.2 per cent in the first four months of 2017, contributing 6.5 percentage points to the overall increase; of which, the metal production surged by 47.5 per cent2.
Although Vietnam’s manufacturing industry has seen solid growth and achieved remarkable development, the local manufacturers still have to cope with a slew of challenges in the face of increased international competition. In fact, due to the lack of capital, technical equipment and advanced technology, many small and medium enterprises have been mired in difficulties, finding it hard to compete with foreign counterparts.
As a result, it is critical for homegrown manufacturers to not only invest and upgrade their industrial technologies, but also scale up the knowledge and capabilities to improve productivity and move up the value chain, creating a momentum for Vietnam’s manufacturing sector to develop to a level on par with regional nations.
MTA VIETNAM – One-stop sourcing platform for the manufacturing industry
2017 marks the 15th anniversary staging of MTA VIETNAM – The International Precision Engineering, Machine Tools and Metalworking Exhibition. Since its inception in 2005, MTA VIETNAM has grown in stature and prestige to become a dedicated manufacturing showcase for the buoyant and evolving Vietnamese market. Commemorating its 15th edition, MTA VIETNAM once again gathers first-line machinery and equipment suppliers from both the international and local markets, serving as the catalyst for industrial professionals to network, forge potential partnerships and keep abreast of the latest industry trends.
Encompassing 11,000 square meters of exhibition space, MTA VIETNAM2017 features a multi-national selection of technologies and machinery, housing more than 420 exhibitors from 24 countries and regions, including 13 international group pavilions from established manufacturing countries like Germany, Japan, Korea (6 groups), Singapore, Taiwan (3 groups) and Thailand. The 2017 edition welcomes the prominent return of leading industry players and renowned international brand names, particularly Amada, Bystronic, Blum, DMG Mori, Hwacheon, Makino, Mazak, Mitsubishi Electric, Nikon, Okamoto, Renishaw, Sodick, Tong Tai, YG-1, Wenzel, to name just a few. The notable increase in exhibitor attendance is the testament to Vietnam’s thriving manufacturing industry as well as a reflection of the show’s growing importance.
International group pavilions in the spotlight
Under the patronage of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy in cooperation with the Association of the German Trade Fair Industry (AUMA), Germany pavilion congregates a strong lineup of companies who are amongst the front runners within the field of precision engineering and manufacturing. Notable German brands may include Guehring, Hoffmann Quality Tools, Knuth, Trumpf, Zoller, and more. This year also marks strong participation from Japan under the auspices of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), showcasing the best of Japan's high-tech innovations, technologies and solutions. Enomoto, Fuji Tool, Nakano, Sakagami and Thermal are only a few amongst the highlighted exhibitors under Japan pavilion.
South Korea is amongst the biggest group pavilions presenting at the show with six pavilions hosting more than 40 individual companies, leveraging on the trading platform to display a sought-after showcase for potential buyers from Vietnam and beyond. Significant brand names under these pavilions include Dragon Precision, Hangzhou Donghua, Jin Young, Mega Plus, Shandong Mingtai, Widin, and numerous others.
Completing the lineup of group pavilions this year is the presence of three pavilions from Taiwan and two other groups from Singapore and Thailand. Strongly supported by government and trade organizations from across the region, the group pavilions will bring into the show a wide assortment of top-notch contemporary technologies and machine tools, on the lookout for expanding investment cooperation and increasing the ratio of domestic supply in the burgeoning Vietnamese market.
Valuable knowledge gleaned from the technical seminars
Held alongside the exhibition will be a full roster of insightful workshops and seminars delving into the latest trends and issues pertinent to the manufacturing industry in this day and age, with the main focus on Industry 4.0 or so-called “smart manufacturing”.
Technology experts and professionals from the Lean Six Sigma Network and Multi Engineering Solutions Laboratory (MES LAB) will be sharing their knowledge and experiences on the most topical issues relevant to the Industry 4.0, ranging from the fundamental concept and practices of Industry 4.0, the development of Internet of Things (IoT), to the significant roles of Industry 4.0 and IoT in the domestic and overseas manufacturing scenarios.
Dr. Nguyen Huu Thien - Former General Director, The Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality (Ministry of Science and Technology) - Chairman of the Lean Six Sigma Network shared: “The Industrial Revolution 4.0 has continuously been the most up-to-the-minute matters in recent years. In order to fully capitalize on the opportunities and catch up with the industrial revolution wave, Vietnam needs to start from the simplest, most essential, and most sustainable factor, which is human resources development. Businesses should be encouraged to pay greater attention to human resources training. And this is also one of the key points that I want to emphasize in the seminar program at MTA VIETNAM2017.”
Supplementing the conference experience will be a range of technical workshops, including the “Taiwan Machine Tools Industry Shaping the World” hosted by Taiwan Trade Center, Inc. (TAITRA) and “Vietnamese Welders Workmanship and Skills - Ability to Satisfy Requirements of Domestic and International Metal Fabrication Industry” by CIMA Co. Ltd (Vietnam Representative Office of American Welding Society). The mixture of cutting-edge plenaries, parallel-track sessions and hands-on breakouts ensures participants valuable learning experiences and various networking activities.
“As the manufacturing field in Vietnam evolves and develops, it drives up the need of high-tech machinery and innovations for local businesses that are determined to stay on the competitive edge of the industry. We believe that MTA VIETNAM will maintain its position as the dedicated showcase catering to the Vietnam’s prospering manufacturing sector, serving as an ideal platform whereby buyers and suppliers meet, form strategic business alliances, as well as share technological know-how and inspiration,” concluded Mr. BT Tee – General Manager, UBM VES – the organizer of MTA VIETNAM2017.
